22.77  EARLY JAPANESE MIRROR.  Exquisite, 19th century dressing mirror cast of bronze with a highly reflective silvered surface on its reverse.   This hand-held mirror is beautifully cast in high relief depicting chrysanthemums and lotus blossoms surrounding a turtle in the middle.  The turtle’s shell has a double hole to receive a thong for carrying the mirror.  He is flanked by 2 kissing adult cranes to his left and three chicks at the bottom.  The detail of this casting is absolutely incredible and is reflective of the highest order of bronze work as done by the Japanese in the 1ith century.  The face of the mirror is a highly polished silver metal surface which still provides a clear, undistorted reflection.  This heavy mirror measures 5/8th inches thick and is just under 5 inches in diameter.  It is in outstanding original condition.  A real Oriental treasure.   395
